Arsenal are still looking to make more signings before the October 5 transfer deadline. Express Sport looks at the latest rumours surrounding the Gunners.
Arsenal’s Premier League season got off to a positive start on Sunday with an emphatic 3-0 victory over Fulham at Craven Cottage. Mikel Arteta’s first-team squad looks in good shape, and the Gunners certainly look like a club on the up.
But there may yet be some new additions in the weeks before the transfer window closes.
New signings Gabriel Magalhaes and Willian impressed against Fulham, but there are areas of the squad Arsenal might hope to further improve.
There is still talk of a new goalkeeper potentially arriving in the coming days with Arteta’s second-choice shot-stopper Emiliano Martinez set to join Aston Villa, while there may be an exit or two on the cards.
Express Sport rounds up some of the latest transfer rumours concerning the Gunners.
Arsenal in talks to sign Dijon goalkeeper
Arsenal have opened talks with French club Dijon over a potential deal to sign goalkeeper Runar Alex Runarsson, according to the Telegraph.
The Gunners are in search of a new back-up to first choice Bernd Leno with Martinez set to be sold to Aston Villa for £20million.
And they have identified Iceland international Runarsson as their prime target.
Arsenal had originally targeted Brentford’s David Raya, but the Championship club’s asking price proved too steep.
Runarsson previously played for Danish side FC Nordsjaelland, where he worked with Arsenal’s current goalkeeper coach Inaki Cana.
He joined Dijon in 2018, after which the Ligue 1 club’s chief scout, Sebastien Larcier, said: “When we discovered his profile, the interest was immediately strong.
“He is technically talented, he is not afraid to play high and has very good footwork. In addition, he has the temperament and charisma.”
Agreement reached to sell midfielder
Arsenal have reached an agreement to sell midfielder Lucas Torreira to Serie A club Torino, report Calciomercato.
The Gunners are willing to let the Uruguayan leave for a fee of around £22m, and it seems their demands have now been met.
Terms were reportedly agreed this morning, but the player’s contract details still need to be worked out before the transfer can be completed.
Gunners join race to sign Portuguese striker
Arsenal are interested in signing Fluminense striker Marcos Paulo, who has a £40m release clause in his contract.
That is according to a report from TEAMtalk, which claims Leeds, Southampton and Watford are also in the race to sign the 19-year-old.
The Brazilian-born forward has caught the eye at Fluminense and in the Portugal Under-19s setup.
It remains to be seen if Arsenal will make a move to sign Paulo, though their interest suggests Arteta may be in the market for another attacking player.
