Arsenal will begin their preparations for the 2020/21 season with a friendly away to MK Dons tonight (August 25).
Mikel Arteta is set to name a squad that will include several Under-23 players with his first team having only returned to training on Saturday, August 22, though he may use the opportunity to blood some of his more senior options.
Arsenal return to action on Saturday when they take on Liverpool in the Community Shield, another match where Arteta is expected to blood several young prospects.
Discussing his side’s return to pre-season last week, Arteta said: “I have to look at the players, how they come from holidays, how they come after winning [the FA Cup], I want to see that reaction.
“You know, are they going to be a little more relaxed because we’ve done something or are they going to come with ‘Okay, this is nothing that we’ve done.
We have to go to the next level, we have to apply ourselves better, we have to improve in a lot of areas and we have to dominate many other aspects of the game that at the moment we cannot control’.
“If that is the mindset, then I am very positive that we will be sitting here in a year’s time really happy. But I hope we take that road straight away.”
The match will kick off at 6pm tonight and be broadcast on the club websites of both Arsenal and MK Dons.
