Floyd Mayweather will cover the cost of George Floyd’s funeral, a representative of the American boxing legend has confirmed.
The 46-year-old’s funeral is scheduled to take place on June 9 in Houston and the cost will be covered by Mayweather, whose offer to pay for three additional services in Minneapolis, where Floyd lived at the time of his d’eath, has also been accepted by the family.
‘He’ll probably get mad at me for saying that, but yes, [Mayweather] is definitely paying for the funeral,’ Leonard Ellerbe, the CEO of Mayweather Promotions, told ESPN. ‘Floyd has done these kind of things over the last 20 years.’
A number of high-profile stars from the world of support have lent their support to the #BlackLivesMatter movement, with Tiger Woods the latest to voice his shock and horror.
He said: ‘My heart goes out to George Floyd, his loved ones and all of us who are hurting right now,’ Woods wrote.
‘I have always had the utmost respect for our law enforcement. They train so diligently to understand how, when and where to use force. This shocking tragedy clearly crossed that line.
