Mesut Ozil’s Arseanl future remains shrouded in doubt as his mammoth contract continues to wind down with his wife pushing for a move to Turkey as Fenerbahce remain in the hunt.
Mesut Ozil’s wife is pushing her husband for an Arsenal exit after he turned down a move to Fenerbahce according to reports.
The German has barely featured for the Gunners since the restart which has done little to quash rumours of an Emirates exit.
A move to Turkey has long been touted for the World Cup winner given his connections to the country.
His wife, Amine Gulse – a former Miss Turkey, is a well known actress in her homeland making a move east an attractive proposition according to Bild.
Finding a buyer for Ozil has proved difficult however, largely down to his mammoth Arsenal salary that sees him pocket £350,000-a-week.
The German has regularly reiterated his commitment to the Gunners and is thought to be happy to see out his current deal in north London.
His wage demands are what curtailed a switch to Fenerbahce but newly crowned Super Lig champions Istanbul Basaksehir could make a swoop for the 31-year-old, reports 90min.
They have been pondering a move since last summer and have the likes of Gael Clichy, Martin Skrtel and Robinho in their ranks.
Ozil has made 22 starts for the Gunners this term, scoring just the once against Newcastle in February.
But despite his lack of minute Mikel Arteta maintains he is given every opportunity to stake his case.
He said: “I don’t know. He’s training with the team, he’s available for selection. We’ll make the decisions on a daily basis.
“I have to select him, and I have 24 players to do that in the squad. At the moment he’s not being selected. We’ll see what happens for the next game.
“He has the same chances as everybody else.”
