Arsenal are in discussions with Real Madrid to extend Dani Ceballos’ loan deal, and their job could be made easier if the Spanish side recall Martin Odegaard.
Real Madrid head coach Zinedine Zidane will recall Martin Odegaard early from his two-year loan spell at Real Sociedad, according to reports from Spain.
The Norwegian central midfielder moved to the Bernabeu as a 16-year-old in 2015, and failed to establish himself in the Madrid first team set-up before being loaned out to Heerenveen and Vitesse.
But only after joining Real Sociedad at the beginning of last season did he fulfil his initial promise, scoring four goals and six assists for the Basque outfit.
And according to Spanish outlet AS, Real boss Zidane is ready to bring the 21-year-old back to the club early as it is believed the midfielder is ready to compete for a place in the first team squad.
This could be good news for Arsenal, who are in talks to extend Dani Ceballos’ loan spell at the Emirates.
Los Blancos, who have Ceballos under contract until 2023, are said to be keen to keep the 24-year-old.
But reports in Spain have claimed Ceballos may request to be loaned out for another year, something Real Madrid might go along with, particularly if Zidane has asked for Odegaard to return to the Bernabeu.
If Ceballos signs on for another season in north London, the Spanish international could be partnered alongside Thomas Partey.
Arsenal are set to complete the signing of Willian on a free transfer, after the winger left Chelsea.
But once a deal for the Brazilian is completed, it is understood that Arsenal will turn their attentions to strengthening in several other areas.
The Gunners are targeting a dynamic central midfielder to stiffen the spine of the side, with Partey among the club’s main targets.
Arsenal have reportedly made several bids with a player swap deal offered, but Atletico Madrid are insistent that they will not sell the Ghanaian international unless his buyout clause of £45million is met.
